Richard Gere tells us to live a full life, there’s a powerful reason why.

“My friend’s mom has eaten healthy all her life. Never ever consumed alcohol or any “bad” food, exercised every day, very limber, very active, took all supplements suggested by her doctor, never went in the sun without sunscreen and when she did it was for as short a period as possible – so pretty much she protected her health with the utmost that anyone could. She is now 76 and has skin cancer, bone marrow cancer and extreme osteoporosis. My friend’s father eats bacon on top of bacon, butter on top of butter, fat on top of fat, never and I mean never exercised, was out in the sun burnt to a crisp every summer, he basically took the approach to live life to his fullest and not as others suggest. He is 81 and the doctors says his health is that of a young person.”

Say the truth that you’re carrying in your heart like hidden treasure.

“People you cannot hide from your poison. It’s out there and it will find you so in the words of my friend’s still living mother:

“If I would have known my life would end this way I would have lived it more to the fullest enjoying everything I was told not to!”

None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Eat the delicious food. Walk in the sunshine. Jump in the ocean. Say the truth that you’re carrying in your heart like hidden treasure. Be silly. Be kind. Be weird. There’s no time for anything else.”

This experience echoes the words of the Dalai Lama, who has often encourages us that happiness is the meaning of our life:

“The very purpose of our life is happiness, which is sustained by hope. We have no guarantee about the future, but we exist in the hope of something better. Hope means keeping going, thinking, ‘I can do this.’ It brings inner strength, self-confidence, the ability to do what you do honestly, truthfully and transparently.” ~ Dalai Lama

But selfish pursuit of happiness can have the opposite effect as the 8th century Tibetan monk and scholar Shantideva reminds us that altruism is the key to lasting happiness:

“All the suffering there is in this world arises from wishing our self to be happy. All the happiness there is in this world arises from wishing others to be happy.” ~ Śāntideva

you do not know what god will deal you, i know someone who never drank alcohol did not smoke and died at 47 with cancer, i am in my mid fifties, i do eat healthily as i believe it is good for the body, soul and brain, enjoy a tipple of wine occasionally and live life to the full, within my means, i would just like to say you are a brilliant actor and i have enjoyed all of your films, thank you for all the joy you have given me with your on screen presence, i wish you good health and joy, god bless you.

Richard Gere’s philosophy about life is not justified. You can’t just consider one case and draw conclusion from it.
To keep a healthy diet and exercise regularly is a well known fact to live a happy and longer life. Many people said,
I am over the hill and wouldn’t listen doctor’s advice. To follow the healthy advice doesn’t necessary prolong your life
but it would give you a”Easy Death”. without suffering from horrible diseases and cancers.

    Spot on guy, spot on!
These damn words all sound great on FB, I. Magazines, etc
The Dali lama ain’t God and neither is Richard Gere. Easy for the rich beyond their dreams, can lead a life where everything is at the tip of their fingertips.
I am not bashing Gere, I like him as an actor and from Interviews I have seen, He seems to be pretty good guy.
But basing those assumptions on what he posts is bullshit!
There are plenty of medical, Physical, studies, and the like to show who really beats the odds on living a heLthy lifestyle, lives in as clean an environment they , and then let’s do the math!
Nice words on paper, but it’s not the tell all truth.
Living your life to the fullest has its consequences depending on what road you choose to live it on!
That’s my Story and I am sticking to it!

I want to say a big thank you from Wales. I have done the blind, the false stuff, the a**l parties. Now it is all about the truth and happiness which lie within. I have friends in the US who have dined with you. You are an inspiration to this peace living Celtic lady. Thank you from my heart. Penelope.

I’m 64 and have been living life to the fullest all my life but especially after 60. I meditate for the last 36 years TM..yoga 3 times a week …run almost every morning for 45 minutes at a moderate pace ..I eat well no junk food ..no fried food and no soft drinks. People tell me in 54 and I just smile

good for you, i eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables gives you a feeling good deep from inside and keeps brain working in good order to, i do exercise good for the blood supply, i also make sure my husband has plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, keep up the good work.

The husband has the right idea. The processed food industry wants us to believe that wheat, bread, cereals, artificial sweeteners, etc. and all the boxed junk is really better for us…it’s not! Our ancestors ate meat, fish, eggs, fruits and vegetables and cancer didnt exist. Fat is not the enemy. Processed food that we have been brainwashed into believing is healthy is really our worst enemy and what is poisoning us. Enjoy that steak and pass on the frozen dinners!

Thank you for these very deep meaning words. I am disabled and my back, knees and shoulders in a mess. When my doctor showed me X-rays I cried. I said “I guess I should have not gone on to bikes and had my horses then. I was told very young to look after my bones” Doctor said “Carol you have lived your life, You won’t be saying I wish I had done …… “!! I loved my horses and spent many happy hours with them. I have had a good life too. Richard I agree with all you wrote. My husband and I camped danced laughed and enjoy our life. God’s good, He’s on my side throughout the pain I get. I thank him for every day. X

I have always been a believer in ‘do what comes natural’. If our body craves a certain food, eat it. The power of “fear” can take us over. To Trust our inner soul and truly live each minute of each day with trust, it will work out. I’ve been up and I’ve been down. Somehow, our most gracious Universe-makes it better. It can be a smile from someone in the store, a surprise phone call, or-or you reach out to someone. I had to do this just recently and yes, it is hard, it’s very hard to reach out but the end result is that that person feels ‘honored’. They are so grateful to be asked to help. Amen

Look life is short so enjoy it. Too much of anything can hurt/harm you, so eat what you like but in limits. Drink and be merry.
It is true that people who eat healthy and stay fit are getting sick but the cause of one’s sickness is at times in the mind. These people live in fear of getting ill. they are adamant about health, and keeping healthy… this fear of any sort brings the fear to an individual. That is why healthy people get sick, its not because of anything else. Fear of getting sick… Tell the universe… I don’t want to get sick… it hears sick… so instead say… I want to be healthy… Ones thoughts when always positive will recreate and bring only positive to them. That’s my theory. Good thoughts, bring goodness. Negative thoughts only bring negativity.

Love, strength, faith, hope and optimism, positive attitude is necessary. My opinion is that if a person is too negative then the person closes for a lot of good opportunities. The reason that you cant see them ( opportunities) is because there is little room for optimism. When a person is positive then you have more broad-minded. When one door closes, then opens another door with other occasions. Open and positive thinking affects your health for the better. Your mind can help your body to be health. Our mind it’s a really amazing if we use him in right way to help us. Thanks for good word.

You travel through this life, this world once. We are not meant to be unhappy in our journey. We should enjoy the trip because it is a once in a lifetime, a one way trip, and all that we g as in a long the way shall be left behind – you can’t take it with you. So yes, do whatever it is that makes you happy while you’re passing through. Use common sense as well in all your choices. But make that journey, be happy, live, love, and enjoy life. You’re only passing through once. Make it count – for you.
